When asking a retail assistant a question do you:
a) Already have what you want figured out and ask in a full comprehensive sentence
b) Have an idea of what you want but rely on the sales assistant to put all the pieces together.
c) Spend ages trying to explain what you want then get frustrated when the store assistant doesn't understand what you want.
When asking for help and the shop assistant asks you questions to better determine what you need do you:
a) Calmly answer all the questions
b) Restlessly wander around while answering the questions
c) Get angry with all the question and wander off saying 'don't worry I'll figure it out'
A shop assistant brings you some suggestions while you are in the change rooms and you don't particularly like them, do you:
a) Thank her, take them into your change room and try them - she went out of her way to help, why not?
b) Explain its not quite what you were looking for and thank her
c) Laugh at her choices and say 'does it look like I would wear anything like that?'
When you have finished trying everything on do you:
a) Hang everything on the hanger the way you remember finding them and bring them out to the shop assistant for her to put away in the correct places
b) You haphazardly hang things on whatever hanger and then put them away in the places you think they went
c) Leave the clothes on the floor of the change room, the shop assistant won't care! Its her job!
When you are at the counter buying your items and the shop assistant asks if you would like a member ship card do you:
a) Ask what the benefits are, then make an informed decision
b) Say No! No matter what the shop assistant says
c) cut the assistant off half way through her sentence with a clipped No.
Once you get your item home you decide you didn't like it, you bring it back to the store for a refund and the shop assistant asks if you would like to look around for an exchange do you:
a) Have a good look around and find some work pants (or something like it) as you know you will use them and you don't like refunding things.
b) Wander around in a circle, not really looking then come back to the counter and ask for the refund
c) Don't even let her finish her sentence before saying no and demand the refund.
Try thinking about about what it is like to be on the other side of the counter. Stop thinking every shop assistant 'just wants a sale' or 'its her job to clean up after me' and trying thinking about how you would feel if the roles were reversed.
